Story

Many genera and species of rhinoceroses inhabited North America from the Eocene through the Miocene, but rhinos went extinct in North America in the very early Pliocene about 5 million years ago. Four genera and five species of rhinos survive today in Africa, India, and southeast Asia. Rhinos were common and diverse in New Mexico during the middle Miocene about 14-15 million years ago, with three genera and five species.
